The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has reached 135 feet, it has been announced. The water level has risen due to heavy rain in the catchment area of ​​the dam. The Tamil Nadu Idukki district administration has been warned to open the dam due to the strong flow of water.

Tamil Nadu has informed that there is a possibility of water flowing out through the spillway shutter if the water level reaches 136 feet. Authorities are advising people living on the banks of Periyar to be vigilant. The dam was last opened in August 2022. Although there has been less rainfall in Idukki compared to the previous day, intermittent rains are continuing.

6084 cubic feet of water is flowing into the dam per second. But Tamil Nadu is taking only 1867 cubic feet of water per second. According to the current rule curve, Tamil Nadu can store 136 feet of water till June 30.

Heavy rains continue in the state. Orange alert has been issued in five districts today. Orange alert has been issued in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. Yellow alert has been issued in 9 other districts today.
