Kochi: The High Court has cancelled the results of the KEAM (Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical- KEAM) examination. The results were cancelled following petitions questioning the change in the weightage of the examination. The court questioned the fact that the prospectus was changed and the weightage was changed after the examination was conducted.
The order was passed by Justice D.K. Singh. The petitioners pointed out that the method of determining the rank of the entrance exam for engineering admissions is detrimental to the students of the CBSE syllabus.Until last year, there was a mark consolidation that gave equal weightage to Plus Two Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In the revised mark consolidation this year, additional weightage was given to Mathematics and changed to a ratio of 5:3:2. The weightage was given in the manner of five for Maths, three for Physics and two for Chemistry. The court ordered that this weightage be cancelled and the old method of giving equal weightage to all three subjects be continued. The prospectus was amended by changing the mark consolidation system after the results of the engineering entrance examination were published. The petitioners argued that this action was not legal.
The KEEM results were announced on July 1. John Shinoj, a native of Ernakulam Muvattupuzha in the engineering department, and Anagha Anil, a native of Alappuzha Pathiyur in the pharmacy department, had secured first rank.

Out of the top 100 rankers, 43 candidates had appeared in the Plus Two Kerala Board examination. 55 candidates appeared for the CBSE syllabus and two candidates appeared for the ISCE syllabus. 33,425 candidates appeared for the Pharmacy exam.
